MADRID: Zinedine Zidane resigned as Real Madrid manager immediately, the Spanish club said just days after they lost the La Liga title to Atletico Madrid.

“It is time to respect the decisions he has made and show appreciation for his level of professionalism, dedication and seriousness over the years,” Real Madrid said in a statement on its website.

“Zidane is one of the greatest at Real Madrid and the legendary status he has goes beyond his role as a coach and player at our club.”

The departure of the operator from France came at the disappointing end of the campaign for the 13 -time European champions.

They lost the Champions League semi-final to Chelsea and failed to win any trophies for the first time in 11 seasons.
