ISTANBUL: Mesut Ozil confirmed yesterday he left Arsenal for Turkish club Fenerbahce after being frozen for months by the Gunners.

“I am very happy, very excited. God gave me the opportunity to wear the Fenerbahce jersey. I will wear it with respect and give it all to the team,” Ozil said in an interview with Turkish television, NTV.

The former German star said he would fly to Istanbul with his family, ending a seven-and-a-half-year relationship with Arsenal which ended in a gloomy ordeal with coach Mikel Arteta.

The 32-year-old has not played for the Premier League team since March 2020 and his contract agreement will expire at the end of the season.

However, he claimed in the interview that he was “in good physical condition” despite being sidelined for a long time.

The Fanatic daily reported that Ozil would sign a three-and-a-half-year deal with Fenerbahce worth 5 million euros a season.
