Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski revealed he had talks with Alex Ferguson about his move to Manchester United in 2012.

The Polish national is often linked with a move to Old Trafford while with Borussia Dortmund, where he enjoyed four seasons at Signal Iduna Park.

However, his move to England was unsuccessful and he joined Dortmund’s rivals Bayern for free in 2014.

He scored 266 goals in 307 appearances for Bayern and was the top scorer in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League last season when The Bavarian won the treble.

Lewandowski last week was rewarded for his performance after being named FIFA 2020 Player of the Year, but his career may have gone through a different journey if BVB did not prevent him from going to the English Premier League (EPL), he said.

“After my second year in Dortmund, I was in touch with Sir Alex Ferguson,” Lewandowski told France Football. “He wanted me to go to Manchester.

“I am very interested. I can say I am ready, but Dortmund do not want to let me go. It does not disappoint me because everything is going well in Borussia.”

Ferguson then hired Robin van Persie from Arsenal in the 2012-13 season and he helped United to lift the EPL title in the last season of the legendary manager.
