Lampard: We Are Not Title Contenders

LIVERPOOL: Frank Lampard rejects the notion that his side can win the Premier League this season when they miss the chance to return to the stage with a 1-0 defeat against Everton in front of 2,000 supporters near Goodison Park just now.

A series of 17 unbeaten matches after spending £ 220 million in the transfer market saw Chelsea labeled as key contenders for teams such as Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City.

However, Lampard claimed that his team was still considered a young challenger after failing to erase the opponent’s advantage following Gylfi Sigurdsson’s penalty in the 22nd minute.

“Some people say we will win the league, we have the best squad in the league, it’s something crazy,” Lampard said.

“When you talk about the best squad, you have to look at the teams that have won it in two, three or four years. Their team is full of strikers and winger who score 30 or 40 goals a season, midfielders who have won several league titles in various places.

“We are there too but we have young players and as a team, we are not there yet. It quickly passed from us which was not so good after the match against West Brom and Southampton to us as title contenders.

“We have to work hard like tonight. It’s a big test for us, we didn’t pass the test but will do it in the future.”
