Klopp Said He Feel Relieved
LONDON: Jurgen Klopp says he is relieved past January with Liverpool still having a chance of winning the Premier League title after a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace last night.
Klopp’s side shone behind the loss of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to the African Cup of Nations when they took a 2-0 first-half lead thanks to goals from Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
However they need action from goalkeeper Alisson Becker to be at their best in addition to a controversial penalty completed by Fabinho, to ensure victory and reduce the gap with Manchester City to nine points.
“Obviously January is a tricky period for us based on its history,” Klopp said.
“You play without three players in Africa and a few more, so we have a small group to get through but they do well.
“It’s like Jekyll and Hyde’s football today. It shows how good we can play and vice versa!”
Liverpool still have one game left over City after this and will get Salah and Mane back in time for the Premier League in 18 days.
Klopp believes Liverpool’s journey is still a long way off to find the title.
“The distance is too far for us to talk about but we don’t have to. We just have to win the football match,” the German operator said.
