BERLIN: Still fresh with a Champions League final win, Chelsea star Kai Havertz hopes his performances at the club could give him an appearance for Germany at Euro 2020.

Havertz, who will turn 22 at next week’s European Championships, showed his talent when he calmly beat Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson and blasted home Chelsea’s lone goal in last week’s 1-0 Champions League final.

The midfielder’s first goal in the Champions League in Porto clearly disappointed City.

“That was a very important goal for me personally, for the club, for my family. It will stay with me forever,” Havertz said yesterday, a few days before joining a German training camp in Austria.

“I need confidence, that’s when I play at my best, and that’s how I’m going to the European Championships.”

Germany head coach Joachim Loew described Havertz as “an amazing talent.”

There was fierce competition in the German midfield from Bayern Munich veteran Thomas Mueller, 31, who was called back after two years on the sidelines.

However Havertz was not surprised.

“There’s enough of a system for several striking midfielders to be able to play on the same pitch at the same time,” Havertz said.
