MADRID: Xavi Hernandez said Barcelona’s 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid could change the club after an exciting Clasico match at the Santiago Bernabeu today.
Barcelona thrashed Madrid away when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang blasted twice in addition to two goals by Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres.
The match was labeled as a test against Barca under Xavi and they passed brilliantly when the embarrassment of the main challenger was next able to provide a challenge again in La Liga next season.
“It can change the dynamics of the present and the future,” Xavi said. “We have a lot of chances and we are better than Madrid, much better. We deserve to score more goals.”
Asked if Barcelona were back, Xavi said: “It could happen. This is the right route.”
While the result had no impact on the title hunt this season, such a big defeat, at home and against Barcelona, sparked big questions at Real Madrid.
It could happen as it did when Barca won 6-2 at Real Madrid in 2009 under Pep Guardiola or 5-0 at home two years ago.
Questions will be asked about Carlo Ancelotti’s future when Madrid are clearly less tactical than Xavi at Barca, who is faster, smoother and most worryingly, could win with more goals.
