Chelsea Draw Without Goal Against Sevilla

LONDON: Frank Lampard admits he is happy to collect one point and is absent after Chelsea drew a goalless draw in the opening match of the Champions League against Sevilla after much criticism of his defense.

Edouard Mendy returned from injury to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga at goal but the Senegalese international rarely had problems in the match compared to the start of the Premier League.

At that time, Chelsea drew 3-3 twice in their opening five games, including at home against Southampton as they squandered twice their advantage.

The Blues only won two of the six campaign matches this time around but looked even stronger with Thiago Silva’s presence on the defensive side as he included five new players in the starting line-up.

“He is very good today. He brings quality and experience that affects other players and plays an important role we did not miss,” Lampard said of the Brazilian veteran midfielder.

“We will be better. We have no players there who are always playing, the more we do, the better we will be.”
