MUNICH, Germany: Bayern Munich striker Eric Choupo-Moting knelt down while celebrating his goal after a 2-0 win over Lokomotiv Moscow in the final of the Champions League group stage just now.

The striker’s stance on the racist issue came just 24 hours after a teammate at Paris Saint-Germain, left the field in protest of allegations of racial issues from the fourth referee in the club’s match against Istanbul Basaksehir yesterday.

“I followed what happened yesterday, and it was sad to see, but the reaction of both teams was great. We must continue to fight against racism, we cannot deny it, we must be proactive and do it,” Choupo-Moting told Sky.

Choupo-Moting’s goal confirmed a comfortable victory for Bayern, giving the defending champions their fifth win in a bid to defend their title this season.

“We struggled to find space in the first half, it was important to score the first goal. We kept putting pressure and I was happy to get that goal,” Choupo-Moting said.

When they won Group A, Bayern coach Hansi Flick put players such as Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry on the bench facing Lokomotiv.
