LONDON: Merseyside police are examining CCTV footage to determine whether Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo committed an offense by slamming a mobile phone out of the hands of supporters after The Red Devils lost 0-1 at Everton yesterday.
Video footage of the incident caught Ronaldo as he exited the field and headed into a tunnel at Goodison Park after the match.
Witnesses said the 37 -year -old star then pushed the supporter’s mobile phone and slammed it before Ronaldo through his Instagram account apologized for the incident.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said the team was in touch with both clubs after receiving reports of the incident.
“When the players left the field at 2.30pm, it was reported that a boy had been attacked by one of the visiting team players as they were leaving the field.
“An investigation is underway and officials are working with Everton Football Club to examine CCTV footage and conduct an investigation before determining whether an offense was committed,” the spokesman said.
The defeat left United in seventh place in the Premier League and face the prospect of missing out on a ticket to the Champions League next season.
