LONDON: Paul Pogba brought Manchester United to the top of the English Premier League for the first time in three years after scoring a 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

United now lead defending champions Liverpool with a three-point advantage ahead of the meeting between the top two teams at Anfield this Sunday.

Although speculation about his future continues to be talked about, Pogba still plays a key role in United’s success in challenging for the league title for the first time since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad now has 29 points out of a total of 33 to bounce back from just two wins in the first six games of the season.

The presence of Bruno Fernandes after Burnley’s 2-0 win at Old Trafford almost a year ago changed the fate of United.

The success of overcoming Burnley, who has not lost at home since October, also proves that United have the ability to get the results they need.

After a slow start by visitors, the first half was overshadowed by controversy following several VAR assessments.

The game was delayed by five minutes to see Luke Shaw’s attack on Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady’s rudeness on Edinson Cavani.

Referee Kevin Friend waved a yellow card at Shaw and canceled Brady’s yellow card after the assessment.
