Lacazette: Arsenal Were Lucky To Get Penalty
Alexandre Lacazette admitted Arsenal were lucky to be awarded a penalty that was completed in the win over Tottenham in the English Premier League (EPL).
Referee Michael Oliver awarded Arsenal a penalty after Davinson Sanchez made a tackle on Lacazette after the French striker failed to make an accurate shot.
Lacazette beat compatriot Hugo Lloris to complete a 2-1 comeback for Arsenal, with Martin Odegaard denying Erik Lamela’s opening goal.
Still, Lacazetted accepted that The Gunners were lucky to be given a penalty that determined the outcome of the match.
“We were lucky to get the penalty. Sometimes it’s good to get a good result from the referee,” he said.
“Of course I’m happy. Before, I’ve done a lot of taking penalties against Hugo but I’m sure. You have to be confident.”
The penalty awarded to Arsenal at a very crucial moment in the match was undoubtedly a big discussion, and Jose Mourinho was not happy with the decision.
“No post -match interviews for the referees? What a pity,” he told Sky Sports. “We played very badly in the first half-1-1 was not a fair picture for the first half. We played badly, defended badly.
“There was no intensity and pressure. Some players were hiding. We improved it in the second half.
“Then that’s a question – but an impossible one because [officials] didn’t speak – for referee Michael Oliver to answer. Maybe Paul Tierney too because he’s a VAR.
“According to [fourth officer] Kevin Friend, the referee told him he had a clear decision and the VAR didn’t want to challenge him.”
