MADRID: Toni Kroos believes Lionel Messi’s presence at Paris Saint-Germain could benefit Real Madrid in two ways.
First, Messi Barcelona’s former team will be getting weaker and second, the arrival of Kylian Mbappe to Madrid.
The German midfielder believes Messi’s move will pave the way for Mbappe to join Los Blancos, a club backed by the French striker.
“We’ll see how. Maybe the transfer (Messi to PSG) is good for us because our main rivals lost their best players.
“If it happens – I’m not sure – this Messi transfer will definitely give us an advantage,” Kroos said.
Mbappe, 22, has yet to sign a contract extension with PSG which will expire in 10 months.
Speculation regarding Mbappe’s transfer has escalated, especially after the presence of Messi.
PSG and Real will reportedly discuss the transfer of the young French striker.
Meanwhile, Kroos, who was paired with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real from 2014 to 2018, said the Portuguese star was a great legend compared to Messi.
“It’s true I weigh eleven because he helped us win a lot of championships. He’s not only a teammate, but also my neighbor.
“That’s why it’s taboo for me to say Messi is the best player of all time,” he said.
