LIVERPOOL: Liverpool’s unbeaten run of 68 in the Premier League at Anfield ended in a late Ashley Barnes game that gave struggling team a 1-0 win just now.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have now failed to win in five consecutive league games which has seen their efforts to defend the title increasingly difficult as they remain six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

Burnley started the game just one spot above the relegation zone but was given a big chance when Barnes was dropped by Alisson Becker seven minutes before the end and then beat the Brazilian goalkeeper on penalties.

Liverpool have not suffered a defeat in the league at Anfield since April 2017.

Since then the Reds have ended their 30-year wait to win the league, but their chances of doing so have once again waned with a poor performance over the past month.

In addition to player injuries for the hosts, goal scoring problems also contributed to Liverpool’s performance when they failed to score in four consecutive league games.

Klopp responded to Liverpool’s longest drought in the Premier League for 16 years by dropping top scorers Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino to the bench.
