MADRID: Real Madrid faced a surprise defeat in the Spanish Super Cup just now when Athletic Bilbao won 2-1 in Malaga and then advanced to the final against Barcelona.

Raul Garcia blasted twice in the first half, one of them on penalties while Karim Benzema regained the lead for the defending champions but Bilbao defended for the victory for their new coach, Marcelino Garcia Toral.

Bilbao lost 3-2 to Barca in La Liga last week with Lionel Messi blasting twice in San Mames, but they can take revenge on Ronald Koeman’s squad this weekend in a trophy in Seville.

“We only had 90 minutes to win the title,” Marcelino said.

“It’s definitely something amazing, and it’s even better after beating Real Madrid and Barcelona.”

Real coach Zinedine Zidane was not disappointed with the defeat.

“It is not a failure,” he said. “You can’t win every game.”
